Mixpanel events

Three events cover the journey. Break any of them down by id, title, utm, industryId or industryName. On deep_link_click and deep_link_open, industryId and industryName are properties of their own, not inside dynamicParams. On deep_link_handled they stay inside dynamicParams, because the app already sets the signed-in person's own on every event.

EventSent whenBy
deep_link_clickSomeone taps a linkThe link handler
deep_link_handledThey reach the destination, signed inThe app or website
deep_link_openAn email with the pixel is openedThe API

Test links (ids starting with TEST_) send none of these events. They still open and redirect normally. The email pixel still returns its image.

  • Properties: id, utm, industryId and industryName (when they are in data), and dynamicParams for any other value in data.
  • User: always deeplink_handler, because the handler does not know who tapped. Count events, not users.
  • utm is the URL's tags. If the URL has none, the handler looks the link up (a quick public request) and uses the link's default tags. If that lookup fails or takes longer than about 0.8 seconds, the click is recorded with no tags rather than delaying the redirect.
  • The handler does not check which params the link allows, so everything simple found in data is recorded: industryId and industryName as their own properties, the rest in dynamicParams.
  • It is sent even if the link is switched off.
  • Properties: id, title, utm, and dynamicParams (only the ones the link allows, including industryId and industryName if the link allows them). The app already records the signed-in person's own industryId and industryName on every event, so the link's stay inside dynamicParams here and don't replace them.
  • User: the signed-in person.
  • Not sent when the link is off, deleted, or could not be found.
  • For the rest of that visit, every event the app sends also carries deepLinkId and deepLinkTitle, so you can see what people did after arriving.
  • Properties: id, title, utm, industryId and industryName (when allowed and present), and dynamicParams (the other allowed params, for example email), the same shape as the other two events.
  • User: the email param if present, otherwise email_pixel. email is also inside dynamicParams.
  • Not sent for off, deleted or unknown links.
